Welcome to Leo Season! It is the season when the summer is at its peak in the Northern Hemisphere. Which also reflects on the celebrations happening during this time, we will be having a lot of fun, going on vacation and shining our brightest as a collective. Leo season being this way tells us a lot about Leos, generally they are all about having fun, being in love, feeling energized and creative. This month we are going to learn more about the sign of Leo, as well as learn about the Sun! All these months so far we have been following the movement of the Sun, going through different signs and then learning about the planets that rule each sign, this time we are going to learn about the Sun itself, as it is the ruler of Leo. The Sun is at home in Leo where it feels comfortable to fully express itself and shine. This explains why Leos naturally have such a strong presence and vitality.

It is interesting that in the current modern astrology world, we give the most significance to our Sun signs. Most of the time it is the first thing we ask people when we talk about astrology. “What is your Sun sign?”. I recently read that it was not always like this, and that there is a big chance that it will not always be like this. Because of the current state of the western patriarchal world that most of us live in, we intuitively and subconsciously give the most significance to our Sun sign, which represents the ego, character & presence. It is the masculine, Yang energy of the Sun radiating outwards, focusing on status & accomplishments. The Sun is the King to the Moon’s Queen. As the world is slowly transitioning into a different age, our knowledge and awareness of astrology is expanding faster than ever before. We are slowly moving from “What is your Sun sign?” referring to the identity and ego into “What is your Moon sign?” referring to our emotions and our inner world (the rise of The Feminine) and even “What are your big 3?” as more and more people have a wider understanding of themselves and others through an astrological lens and are aware that there is much more than our Sun signs, but in this post we will give it all our attention.
Sun

Provider of light & warmth every single day of our lives, shining bright towards the Earth and sustaining life of all living beings, the Sun represents life force, willpower, courage. Being in the center of our Solar system, the Sun represents being in the center, or the main thing where all attention goes. It is our conscious awareness and alertness, because the Sun shines during the day when everything is visible and seen. The Sun, connected to the Solar Plexus and the heart is where our vitality and inner power comes from. It is important for the Sun to express itself, and it does that through the 12 signs it travels through.
Leo
After getting in touch with our emotional side during Cancer season, we are now ready to be more outgoing again, to feel courageous and to follow our passions. Have you noticed the contrast of each astrological sign? And how the growth and different phases reflect in each astrological season?
Leo is the second Fire sign of the Zodiac, and what makes it different from Aries and Sagittarius is that it is of a fixed quality. That means that summer is here and it is here to last. Fixed quality gives Leo traits of being consistent & loyal, especially in their creative and loving endeavors. Leos love to shine in many different ways, whether it is through creation of their visions & dreams or self expression through artistic performance. They are known for their big hearts and generosity.
Sometimes Leos can express themselves by being overly dramatic & self-centered, which makes sense because everything in our Solar System revolves around Leo’s ruler, the Sun.

A word that comes to mind when I think of Leos is bold. They are bold when it comes to making decisions, as well as expressing themselves through clothing and choosing colors. Any bold colored piece of clothing that makes a statement and leaves an impression will always attract a Leo to wear it. In addition to bold colors, the most powerful color for Leos & Leo season is gold. As it is also connected to the Sun and it represents royalty and wealth. This is the best time to shine our brightest and embrace the frequencies by wearing our beautiful golden accessories.
Leo rules the heart
Similarly to the Sun that providers life to all beings on earth, Leo rules the main organ in the circulatory system that keeps us alive, circulates & pumps blood all throughout our body. Our heart is where it is said that we love the most and when we get disappointed in love we call it “heartbreak”. Being in the center of our body, the heart’s function is one of the most important ones and it is correlated with the big hearted sign of Leo. Other parts of the body that Leo rules & co-rules are the circulatory system, as well as the eyes.
Fifth house
As we are in the season of the fifth sign of the zodiac, we will learn about the fifth house in our natal charts. Fifth house is the house of creativity, fun, romance & true love ( but not relationships, that is the 7th house). In the fifth house we can see how we love and what we love to do, how we have fun and what is our passion. It is the house of pleasure and doing what feels good. Because it is a house of creation, it also rules pregnancy and having children in a woman’s chart.
People with beneficial placements in this house can indicate luck when it comes to winning the lottery or a having positive high school experience, for example. When the fifth house is challenged in a chart, it can indicate troubles with creativity & self expression.
Flowers & Astro-Herbalism
Discovering sun ruled plants in nature can be very easy & fun on fundamental levels. The most obvious flowers will embody & reflect the energy of the Sun by being yellow/orange and round! Sunflowers are the perfect example, from having a name Sunflowers to being known as the flowers that follow the Sun’s movement throughout the day, always facing it. They also bring so much joy when they are in a bouquet or gifted to people. Other flowers that represent the energy of the Sun that come to my mind are Marigolds, Calendula, St. John’s Wort…

From a more herbalist perspective, plants that are connected to the Sun are also plants that are beneficial for the heart & circulatory system, immune system, basically anything that improves our longevity, well being & vitality of our bodies, as well as plants that help us feel more joyful and enthusiastic in life.
Another example of a Sun ruled plant (that in this case does not have a yellow flower) is Rosemary. Rosemary is a warming & drying plant when used as a remedy. According to Sajah Popham’s Evolutionary Astro-Herbalism Course, Rosemary is a circulatory stimulant & digestive stimulant, it warms the solar plexus, strengthens the digestion & increases the blood flow. Smelling Rosemary can bring joy and improve memory. I have a strong connection to Rosemary as it is my mom’s favorite plant (and she has strong Leo placements!).

Thanks so much for taking the time to read about Leo season, I hope that you are enjoying learning and reading these monthly introductions to the signs as we follow the movement of the Sun going through them. See you next month!
