Let the Sunshine in! Happy Aquarius season. Now that we have built structures during Capricorn Season, it is time to upgrade them and revolutionize them! To think outside the box, to make decisions that serve all of humanity, not just of our own capital. During this Aqua season we might find ourselves with an opportunity to detach from our emotions which allows us to see the greater picture without the personal interference. And that is one of the things Aquarius stands for. Even though there is the word “aqua” in the name, after half of my life thinking that it is a water sign, it was enlightening at the beginning of my astro journey to learn that Aquarius is an air sign. Aquarius is actually known as the Water Bearer, and even though water represents our emotions, by being the bearer of water there is a certain awareness and detachment from the actual embodiment and acting upon emotions. Aquarius represents the ultimate freedom, breaking away from patterns whether they are mental or physical and do not serve us anymore, it also represents freedom from institutions and being conditioned with thoughts that are not our own, and supports the individual to discover their own unique self, to be truly authentic.
Aquarius is the 11th sign of the Zodiac and it is the only fixed air sign. It is ruled by Uranus in Modern Astrology. Before Uranus was discovered in the 18th century, Aquarius’ primary ruler was Saturn. By being ruled by Saturn, in its airy expression, Aquarius stands for the duty of being in service to humanity, it represents equality, humanitarianism, and the structure of the mind. The discovery of Uranus adds another layer to Aquarius’ complexity, giving it a disruptive, mind-opening, awakening, detached and shocking quality. Aquarius is the sign of opening the mind and detaching from the ego. It is the sign of the higher, evolved and conscious mind. Its opposite sign is Leo, which is all about the ego and the self. Aquarius takes it a level further by detaching from the ego and by being aware of unity consciousness, meaning that ultimately we are all one.
But of course sometimes it requires a journey in order to get to conclusions like this. An Aquarius is a rebel who likes to go against the mainstream narrative and beliefs. Aquarius questions, researches, and opens their minds to all possible perspectives. They thrive on being different and to shine light on their uniqueness & authenticity. This is what sometimes makes an Aquarius to experiment with their appearance and expression, which then sometimes makes the public perceive them as “weird”. But Aquarius does not care, because they have a certain freedom of judgment, and they easily accept other people as they are. Aquarius is also a sign of friendship, the collective and community. They value equality, originality and human nature.
Another exciting representation of Aquarius is the study of Astrology! Interpreting what each planet and constellation in the sky mean cannot really be scientifically proven, but there is something in every astrologer’s bone that feels and resonates strongly with this practice. And that is why we continue to do it! It is far from mainstream (well now it is becoming more and more popular) and it requires an open mind with an unbiased, neutral approach. We all get to learn more about ourselves on different levels and also detach from some of our repeated self-beliefs.
Uranus
Uranus is the second transcendental planet that is being covered in these seasonal series (Pluto was covered in Scorpio Season and Neptune will be covered next month). By being transcendental, they represent the unseen and everything that is not physically reachable. Pluto represents the unseen through the shadow, psyche and secrets, Uranus represents the unseen in a different way. And that is through UFOs, Aliens, lightning and earthquakes. You cannot predict when it’s going to show up and it will be very shocking when it does! Uranian energy is the energy of sudden changes created by opposite reactions to what is considered “normal” and “mundane”.
While Sagittarius (and its ruler Jupiter) represent the search for the truth, Uranus simply is the frequency of truth, as well as the present moment.
The 11th House
The 11th house in our chart is the house of friendships, non-romantic connections and community. People with a strong 11th house will have lots of friend groups and connections.
The 11th house is also an area of dreams and aspirations that we have in this life. Because it is the house following the 10th house of career, it is related in a sense of what dreams we are following and what we strive to achieve in our career and also social standing. This house also shows in what way we strive to contribute to humanity. It is the step past the status received from career and hard work (10th house) and it represents charity work and connecting people for a greater cause.
Astro-Herbalism
For someone that has Uranus in Aquarius at the bottom of my chart (4th house), I resonate with this energy strongly and unconsciously (slowly bringing it to awareness). From my observation and experience for the last couple of years, I’ve confirmed a pattern that happens every time my Aquarius house is activated. Even though Mercury is the main ruler for the nervous system, Uranus being a higher octave of Mercury it also rules the nervous system, probably even on a higher level. My nervous system goes bananas during Aquarius Season or whenever major events and transits on the first degrees of Aquarius. It feels so shaky, unstable and airy. It always takes me a couple of days to recover. I feel like this energy is also deeply associated with anxiety. Anxiety comes from the mind, thoughts and can cause a lot of disbalance in one’s life.
Researching the plants that characterize Uranian energy, all the plants that come up are strong stimulants and they activate the body. Some examples are cacao, coffee, coca…
But what I’ve decided to mention in this Astro-Herbalism section is the remedy for anxiety and a heightened nervous system. It is a powerful plant where all the above ground parts are used (the leaves, the stem & the flower) as well as the fruit. It also looks very alien-like. Can you guess what it is?
It’s Passionflower (passiflora incarnata)!
It looks like it is out of this world, the flower and the fruit itself. Tea or tincture made from passionflower is a powerful remedy for anxiety and the nervous system due to its sedative effects. It can help with insomnia and an overstimulated mind. The fruit is so tasty, full of vitamin C and it also has a calming effect on the mind and the body.
